King David the Builder and God
King David the Builder
This is shown in the Tracts section but will not be printed in tract form unless there is call for it from
missionaries working the Republic of Georgia.
Sakartvelo, the old name for the Republic of Georgia,  has had a long history of knowing of the presence of Almighty God and has seen His hand in many ways through many centuries, beginning with Japheth and his son Tubal who settled here right after the Great Flood.

The story of Jesus Christ, even if not taught precisely as the original Apostles of Jesus Christ would have told it, came to T’bilisi in the early fourth century. When the Sakartvelan people leaned on Jesus Christ, God did many mighty works for them. But when human reasoning began to be more important than really trusting God they lost their freedom.

How much like the ancient Israelites! For as long as they trusted God, one man killed 600 Midianites singlehandedly with an ox-prod and another killed 3,000 Philistines with a donkey jawbone! But when they stopped trusting God and serving Him, they entered into alliances with other nations only to see the other nation in whom they were trusting turn on them and conquer them or be defeated by a still stronger army so that the people of Israel and Judah were taken away captive from the land.

When King David IV came to the throne in 1089 at the age of 16, he inherited a land fragmented by quarrels between lesser rulers within Kartli and being invaded regularly by the Seljuk Turks. In his book, “Description of the Kingdom of Georgia,” Vakhushti Bagrationi says, “King David was called the Builder because when he began to reign, the country lay utterly waste, and he built it and filled it with enormous wealth, for he revered our Lord and followed His Commandments….”

King David IV the Builder's army won battles frequently and repeatedly against the Hereti and Kakhetians. On August 12, 1121, his army of between 55,600 and 80,000 Georgians drove out the Seljuk Turkish armies of over 600,000 in the Battle of Didgori and actually chased them well into Turkey. What was David’s secret? He trusted in God and righteousness to prevail. According to the French knight and historian, Gautier, King David encouraged his men just before the battle with, “…Soldiers of Christ! If we fight with abandon, defending the faith of our Lord, we shall not only overcome countless servants of Satan, but the Devil himself. I will only advise you one thing that will add to our honor and our profit. And raising our hands to Heaven we will all swear to our Lord that in the name of love to Him, we will rather die in the battlefield than run.…” The battle on August 12, 1121, only lasted three hours and the enemy suffered a bitter defeat.

David IV the Builder, who by then was also known as “... the Sword of the Messia,” died January 24, 1125 at age 53 and the people began to forget the mighty deliverances of Almighty God through Jesus Christ our Lord in whom their King David trusted.

In 1783, Sakartvelo turned to Russia and because Russia was believed to be Christian and Orthodox, the Georgians put their trust in them as fellow “Christians” instead of in Christ Jesus, Himself. Soon Russia betrayed that confidence and came by force, conquering the surprised Georgians and making Georgia a subject of the Czars of Russia. In 1917, because Russia was pre-occupied with their own restructuring from the Czars to the Communist state, Georgian was able to briefly regain freedom, but did not turn wholeheartedly to trust God and in 1921, was again conquered by brute force by the Russians now under the control of native son, Josef Jugashvili who was better known as Josef Stalin, who declared, "we must crush the Georgian wings." So, following a bloodbath fight, Georgia was made a part of the Soviet Union. How sad that they did not look at history and the Bible and learn from the example of ancient Israel. Though the new Soviet Union had great might, Georgia, had they been truly serving God, could easily have been victorious, just as they were over the Seljuk Turks in 1121, 800 years before! “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5,6).

In 1888, Ilya Chavchavadze, made a profound statement which applies to Christians as well as to nations: “The downfall and degeneration of a nation begins when it, to its great misfortune, forgets its own History: like a hobo, who does not remember who he is, or where he comes from or where he is going..." This is in agreement with “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:17)).

Or, as the Apostle Paul put it, “I can do ALL things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13). Or as the first King David, the Psalmist declared, "For by Thee I have run through a troop: and by my God have I leaped over a wall.” (Psalm 18:29 and 2 Samuel 22:30). And when we tend to falter and fail, when it seems we are about to be overwhelmed, we can take assurance in “A thousand shall fall AT THY SIDE and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. (Psalm 91:7). In a day when wars and rumors of war are on every hand and sometimes it seems that the forces of evil are more numerous and powerful than God's people, we need to take confidence and know that with God, we are the winners! It says so in the back of the book!

Are we Evangelical? Fundamental? Pentecostal? Apostolic? We claim all of these in the sense of maintaining total Biblical integrity of the things we teach and preach. For this reason, we use the term Bible Apostolic. We seek to be totally correct according to the Bible maintaining careful contextual and cultural understanding as well as known strengths and weaknesses of any given writer who, while inspired by the Holy Spirit, was still forced to communicate using the language, culture and known understandings of his day and place. So we are Bible in the sense that everything we say and do is intended to fully align with solid, indisbutably Bible teaching when understood as the writers and first hearers and readers of the Scriptures would have understood them. So we are Evangelical in efforts to reach the whole world with the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are Fundamental in that like the Church of Christ motto, we speak where the Bible speaks and leave the rest alone. We are Pentecostal because we both see the promise as continuing as long as the Lord our God shall call mankind to Himself and we have experienced speaking in tongues and other manifestations of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. We are Apostolic in the sense that we are urgently trying to reestablish original New Testament Apostolic teaching, preaching and life.
