The Bible Apostolic Logo features the golden sun rising from a deep blue morning sky. The Bible as  the one foundation upon which we build and are establishes is marked open by the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Great Creator who so loved us  that He became flesh and dwelt among us, then bled and died to pay the debt for our sins. The golden sun arc doubles to represent the open tomb from  which He arose triumphant. The descending dove represents the coming of the Holy Spirit to us and the flame represents the fire and power of the Holy Spirit in the life of every true believer. When asked if we are Fundamentalist, we are more Fundamental than they. Are we Evangelistic? Very! Are we Baptist? We place a higher value on Biblical water baptism than the Baptists. Are we Pentecostal? We definitely believe in the entire of the Acts 2 experience including that the promise of 2:38 and 39 is to all that the Lord our God shall call. Are we Apostolic? Our desire and goal is to preach, teach and practice that exact same Gospel that Jesus Christ and His Original Apostles taught and would still be teaching if here in person, as we prayerfully try to be their faithful representatives. — Samuel M. Smith, Editor, Presiding Elder
Baptism in Jesus' Name

Why do some people fight against it?

Why would anyone risk his or her soul’s salvation and the joy and peace that belongs to every child of God, by refusing to obey a clear commandment given by Jesus, the Apostle Peter and explained by the Apostle Paul? Why, since it is available to everyone who wants to be baptized without regard to how rich or how poor that person is? All that is required is a truly repentant heart hungry for the righteousness of God. The answer lies in the Satan-inspired apostasy that crept into the church as the original apostles died and were no longer around to correct what the apostle Paul referred to as “damnable heresies.” Satan does not care how much truth you have as long as you do not have saving truth.

Is water baptism really that important to your salvation? Just how important to salvation is Jesus’ name baptism?

It is important because Jesus commanded it. In Matthew 28:19 and 20, He said, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” Mark quotes Jesus as saying, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16:16). Luke’s account of the Great Commission uses the phrase, “remission of sins” in the place Matthew and Mark use the word meaning “baptize,” which would show that he considered baptism and the remission of sins to be the same. The Apostle Peter, to whom had been promised the keys to the kingdom of heaven, used those keys when he told those who had heard the message, believed and because of their belief been “pricked in their heart” with conviction that they must now “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” (Acts 2:38, 39).

The Apostle Paul explains the symbolism of water baptism in Jesus’ name as the burial of the old sin nature with Him and resurrection with Him to walk in newness of life as a new creature in Jesus Christ Jesus. Romans 6:3, 4 says, “Know ye not that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore, we are buried with Him by baptism unto death that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” The thought is repeated in Galatians 3:27, “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”  And still again, Colossians 2:12 says, “Buried with Him in baptism wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God who hath raised Him from the dead.”

For further evidence of God’s will in this matter of being buried with our Lord Jesus Christ in baptism, we take a look at the examples He gave us of what the early believers did when they were converted. Obviously, the 3,000 new believers on the day of Pentecost were baptized in Jesus’ name, because the Apostle Peter had just given the command. When Philip, the deacon-turned-evangelist went to Samaria, in Acts 8:5-17, it is mentioned twice that the new believers were baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ, and in verses 36-38, we see how Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch found a waterhole in the desert where they could both go down into the water to baptize the eunuch. In Acts 10:44-48, the household of the Roman centurion, Cornelius received God’s confirming gift of the Holy Spirit and was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (the original Greek and nearly all translations except the A.D. 1611 King James Version say “Jesus Christ” (in verse 48). First the household of Lydia (verse 15) and then of the Philippian Jailer (verse 33) were baptized by Paul and Silas in Acts 16. In Acts 19, verses 1 through 7, Paul rebaptized a group identified as believers who had been baptized according to John’s baptism, and in chapter 22 verse 16, Paul tells of his own baptism.

The word “baptism” comes from the Greek word “baptizo”, which means to dip or bury as in a liquid. The examples and the Apostle Paul’s explanation of meaning of baptism show clearly that immersion was what God meant. If you have been sprinkled, then the Greek word is “rhantizo” which has been done to you not “baptizo.” And if water was poured over you, the word is “cheo,” not “baptizo”.

The name is important for several reasons. First, Jesus is the One who died and was buried for you and I and the whole world. The symbolism of our burial of the old nature and resurrection of the new creature in Christ Jesus does not fit what is called the “Trine formula”. Secondly, our position as joint-heirs with Jesus Christ requires that we act in His authority by His NAME. When you act in the place of another, you must have his name to be accepted as acting on his behalf. Thirdly, Matthew 28:19 says “name” in the singular, and Father is a title of respect rather than a name. Neither is Son nor holy Ghost a name. Every person on earth is either a son or a daughter, but that is not that person’s name. The name Jesus means Jehovah-our-salvation and we are told that whatever we do, whether in word or deed that all should be done in the name of Jesus (Colossians 3:17).

So we have seen the commandments, the meaning of and Bible examples demonstrating how the early Apostles and believers obeyed. How about you? Will you, too obey? “Now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).
