Up Way Publications 38th Anniversary

The Bible Apostolic Logo features the golden sun rising from a deep blue morning sky. The Bible as  the one foundation upon which we build and are establishes is marked open by the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Great Creator who so loved us  that He became flesh and dwelt among us, then bled and died to pay the debt for our sins. The golden sun arc doubles to represent the open tomb from  which He arose triumphant. The descending dove represents the coming of the Holy Spirit to us and the flame represents the fire and power of the Holy Spirit in the life of every true believer. When asked if we are Fundamentalist, we are more Fundamental than they. Are we Evangelistic? Very! Are we Baptist? We place a higher value on Biblical water baptism than the Baptists. Are we Pentecostal? We definitely believe in the entire of the Acts 2 experience including that the promise of 2:38 and 39 is to all that the Lord our God shall call. Are we Apostolic? Our desire and goal is to preach, teach and practice that exact same Gospel that Jesus Christ and His Original Apostles taught and would still be teaching if here in person, as we prayerfully try to be their faithful representatives. — Samuel M. Smith, Editor,
Presiding Elder

The Tiniest Light

The Tiniest Light

In the darkest night, in the deepest cave, in the most seemingly impenetrable darkness, one tiny spark, one little match or candle, shines its brightest and can be seen from a remarkable distance. The deepest darkness can do nothing against the tiniest spark of light. The blackness of the dark only seems to increase the brightness of the light! Nor can the coldness nor the dampness of the deep dark cool even the tiniest flame!

In fact, if the dark is not truly dark, that is when the brightness of the light seems diminished. At dusk, the brightest quartz halogen, sodium and mercury vapor lights appear dim specks in comparison to the brightness of daylight. But as the darkness deepens, their light seems to grow brighter by the moment until, after the last daylight fades, they seem to be almost as bright as the daylight and you can read and see clearly by their light. In the presence of a quartz halogen light, a flickering match is hardly noticed at all, but let the power to the halogen light be turned off, and the light of the match seems quite bright!

When the world around you seems dark and hopeless and there is evil, hatred, war, murder, gang wars, muggings, robberies, and ugliness on every hand, it may seem hopeless to live according to a higher standard, but that is exactly when your light will shine out the brightest! You may feel that the talents and the abilities that you have are insignificant and small, but if you will be faithful to use what you have, that tiny light will shine bright in the darkness that is all around you. Furthermore, if it is fueled by the power of the Holy Spirit, Satan and all his imps cannot blow it out! No matter how tiny and feeble your light may seem to you, it still appears bright when the world is dark.

When you have the POWER of the Holy Spirit within  you, you exhibit a confidence, an assurance, a peace, a joy, a happiness that shines out as a light. The more you read your Bible, feed on the Word of God and pray, the more fuel you have for the fire of the Holy Spirit to burn and as God miraculously answers your prayers, that testimony will be a bright light to those around you who live in darkness, hopelessness and despair.

It is not up to you to choose whether you want to let your light shine or not, for Jesus commanded, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). It is not something we as His followers can fail to do if we want to obey Him. He also said, “Ye are the light of the world.” in Matthew 5:14. So, if we are His and we are filled with His light, we cannot help but be lights in the darkness around us. The Apostle Paul said,“Ye are all the children of light and the children of the day: we are not of the night nor of darkness.” (1 Thessalonians 5:5).

There are several ways in which we allow our lights to shine. All are in the area of showing God’s love to everyone around us. One is in helping the poor and needy. “And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:” (Isaiah 58:10). In other words if you “Give a cup of cold water…” if you feed the hungry in Jesus’ name, then your dimmest light will appear as bright as the noonday sun.

Letting your light shine for Jesus will not always be easy, because those who love to do evil will hate you, because you expose their deeds. “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest that they are wrought in God.” (John 3:19-21). “We have also a more sure word of prophecy;  whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts:” (2 Peter 1:19).

We are living Bibles, the Word of God in action! And in Psalms 119:105, David said, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my pathway.” The light of the way we live should be a pathway lamp to those seeking the way around us and groping in the darkness that Satan has blinded them with.

Sometimes parents, whether natural or spiritual parents try to shield their children from the darkness around them, and there is a sense in which this is good, for you do not send a baby out to fight a roaring lion, but what must be remembered is that the baby is also a tiny light and for the brightness of the child’s life to shine, it is not in the full daylight nor even the haze of early morning or twilight, but in the deepest black of night that their tiny light can best be seen. While standing in full daylight, a lamp may run out of fuel or its battery become discharged and go out or a strong wind may blow it out and the fact that the light is no longer burning may go unnoticed. But in the darkness, every flicker is a reminder of the need to keep the lamp filled with the oil, the battery charged with the power, of the Holy Spirit and shielded from the blast by the angels of God encamped around about those that love Him.

Will YOU be that tiny light, that spark for Jesus? Will you let the light of Jesus shine through you to a dark world and light the pathway of those around you?
